Drive On, Mentoring Program
Lead On Ballarat, in partnership with the Ballarat Light Car Club, City of Ballarat, Road Safe and Vic Roads devised this program in response to the hardship some highly disadvantaged young people face in obtaining their driving licence. The disadvantage may arise through a variety of conditions such as lack of access and family support, homelessness, economic disadvantage or possibly a propensity for risk taking. The recent mandatory requirement for young people to log 120 hours of on the road practice may for some, significantly increase this disadvantage. This number has been found to significantly reduce the likelihood of crash involvement of these young drivers who gain experience under a number of different conditions.
