Presidents Report
Hello and welcome to another Presidents Report. We have another huge month with the Sandown sprints just gone followed by Coghlan’s Carnival this weekend, Ararat Hill Climb on the 16th and 17th, Stapo’s khanacross the following weekend and the Christmas autocross early in December.
It is going to be hard to get a leave pass for all the events coming up but there is going to be some great motorsport to be appreciated. After all we have very few events in December and January so try to support as many as you can before the Christmas holidays.
It is with sadness that I inform everybody of the passing of Peter Valentine. Peter was a well respected member and former President of the club. Our condolences go to his wife Nina and sons Mark, Drew, James and their families. Peter was the Peugeot Dealer in Ballarat until Gardon Motors took over in the 70s. Peter will be sadly missed by our senior members.
This club meeting will include the presentations for the Tunbridge Trial. We will have a few new faces about so try to attend if you can. I would like to see as many members as possible there to thank John Roberts and Peter Stapleton for such a wonderful event. Well done to Mark Fawcett and Simon Ellis on winning the the Murundindi Magic Rally. This puts them in the lead for this year’s VRC with only one round to go. Fingers crossed for a well deserved State Title.
We are starting to beat the bushes for officials to help with the Ararat Hillclimb and next year’s Begonia Rally. Firstly the historic return of the Ararat Hill Climb is only a fortnight away and we need to find approximately 12 officials for the weekend to help the Ararat car club run the event. It will be a great chance to hone our skills for the Masters Games next year. For those who have been to the Ararat Hill Climb before, they will know just how special the hill really is. There will be a free dinner on Saturday night for all competitors and officials so please contact Steve Ezzy if you can help.
The Begonia Rally is starting to increase momentum and the planning stage is well under way. Ian Crook will be running the event and is well rehearsed as he successfully ran the 2005 Begonia. That event was not only financially viable it lifted the bar for the state level rallies that followed. I look forward to a great partnership between Ian and his team and our club. I believe we will see the Begonia continue on a yearly basis from now on.
The Lead On program is up and running again. This program is to help disadvantaged people obtain a driver’s licence. We have been involved with the program for several years at the early stages of their training, teaching them basic car control. We would like to find some members willing to give up the odd Sunday morning to help with the next level. This would entail being their driving coach on the road. There will be a training session in November to accredit all coaches so if you would like to help then please let me know soon.
I would like to have a working bee at the motor sport complex in early December. We have a few jobs to finish on the shed and some renovations on the timing tower and kitchen area to complete.
It seems that all I have done in this report is to ask for help with a myriad of events and projects. I guess it shows just how active our club is and how many man hours go into the running of our events. If you think you can help then contact a member of committee and they will gladly give you advice on where we need your expertise. Hope to see you at
this month’s meeting on October 31st at 8pm
Regards Russell
